As a rule, yes. Both boxes dial out to our encrypted relay server in the EU. Your connection therefore needs no public IPv4 address and no port forwarding, so Homvoya also works with DS-Lite and CGNAT, which are common on many cable and fibre lines. You need a free LAN port on your router.

It mainly depends on your home connection’s upload speed and on the internet where you are. Your upload at home is the ceiling for your speed on the road. We recommend at least 10 Mbit/s upload. That’s usually plenty for email, banking and video calls; high-quality streaming needs more. The compact hardware also sets limits: the manufacturer states up to 65 Mbps WireGuard throughput for the GL.iNet Opal (lab test). That’s fine for everyday use, not for very high bandwidth.

No. Your devices join the travel box’s Wi-Fi or plug in with a cable. Nothing is installed on your laptop, phone or TV. The boxes arrive already paired and tested.

Then Homvoya won’t work, because it uses exactly that connection. The same applies to a power cut at home. Once the router and home box are back online, the boxes usually reconnect automatically. Tip: before longer trips, ask someone to restart the router and home box if needed.

Anywhere the travel box can get online – via Wi-Fi or cable. Please note: some countries restrict or ban VPN connections. Check the local rules before you travel. Some hotel or corporate networks also block encrypted connections.

Several at once, such as a laptop, phone and tablet. All devices share your home connection’s upload, though. The more devices stream or download large files at the same time, the slower it gets for each one.

The technology itself – an encrypted connection to your own internet line – is allowed in Germany. But note: some countries restrict VPNs. Streaming services and other providers have their own terms of use. And if you work from abroad, agree it with your employer. Working abroad can have tax and social-security consequences.

No, there’s no subscription. The connection service via our relay server is included in the purchase price. The details are set out in our terms.

We haven’t confirmed that yet. Technically, a company VPN runs over Homvoya like any other connection, but we haven’t tested it. If in doubt, ask our support before you buy.
